I've always said there's no escaping the past, but this isn't exactly what I meant.
Were I a younger man, I think I might have tried to make a life here. As it stands now I just want to get home.
I've a question, however: is the registry being used to perhaps reunite those that may not find each other otherwise or is it simply a tracking mechanism? I personally don't need that sort of service but with the state of things it seems important to allow people familiarity.

[Which, don't get him wrong, he is still pretty pressed about. But now that he's found Harry and Hermione (and learned he's meant to be a dad, what is he supposed to tell Hermione), it's a bit easier to bear.]

Many mishaps can be repaired but not all - I'm left to wonder which this is.

Fingers crossed it's the kind that gets fixed. I'm not too keen on staying here.

I'm sure most of us just want to get home. No matter what home's like, it's still home in the end.

I don't mean to sound curt, but many of us here would be far more comforted by the knowledge that time deviants are registered into the system. Otherwise, we will have no viable method of holding them accountable for their actions. The Trace neither impedes nor disrupts a witch or wizard's life unless he or she plans to harm another. It is merely a protective measure set for the benefit of yourself and others.
Registering also allows the Ministry to assist displaced individuals with job and housing opportunities while they figure out a way to send them back home. It isn't simply a means to track them, but also a means to help them acclimate to our world.
For any who are unregistered, I advise you to pay a visit to the Ministry as soon as possible. Disregarding your stance on the decree, it remains the law and no one man is above it.

I believe one thing that the Ministry here must realize is that many of the people that are being taken from their own times and placed here instead come from a time and place of heavy and complete distrust in the Ministry and that is not going to change in them easily.
For many, many years their Ministry was almost wholly corrupt and allowed a violent and divisive regime to take over and cause pain and havoc across wizarding Britain. Telling people that this Ministry is right and good is not going to be enough to convince those inclined toward being skeptical, unfortunately.
While the Ministry has been very kind in providing assistance for those time deviants that register, I feel that many people are simply waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.
no subject
However, I must inquire of you this: how can they possibly form an unbiased opinion of the Ministry if they defy it from the very beginning? Choosing to put themselves in a position where they are against the law will have already lay down the foundation of where they stand among us, as criminals and fugitives.
They cannot see the potential right and good of the system if they never give it the chance to prove it to them.

It's a difficult situation for everyone involved. I understand the stance of the citizens here that worry after the motives of the people that arrive, but I also sympathise with those that arrive that can't bring themselves to trust a Ministry they have no experience with.
It's a rock and a hard place situation on both sides, I think. No one wins, and it's a matter of trying to make it as painless as possible. Abiding by the law is a necessity of course, it's just that so many of these people are used to the laws being used to harm them.

It's very kind of you to put it this way. I'm glad that people are being so understanding of the situations that people are coming from. It is difficult for them - especially the young ones - to go from a war-torn society to something that seems so idyllic. I hope you can understand how it may seem too good to be true.
Still, with such a genuine desire to help, I'm sure you'll win over more and more of those that hold worries soon enough.
[ WHICH IS REALLY ALARMING ]

While there is fear on our side as well - as you can imagine, it's at the very least startling to have friends and family long dead or not yet born appear - it's the displaced who have the most reason to feel lost and afraid. We acknowledge that, and there's been some discussion already of how best to help all of you. Particularly the children, of course; this must be even more terrifying for those who aren't yet adults.
I certainly hope we can appease the concerns of as many of you as possible, if only because it will improve our chances of helping.

I feel very deeply for the children that are stuck here instead of where they belong. I'm very glad that the Ministry is helping them - I saw the announcement and I'm pleasantly surprised. Hogwarts has always been the best and safest place for young witches and wizards, after all.
[ except when tom riddle is in any kind of power and it makes his stomach turn to think about but he's going to play this role as much as he needs to, damn it ]
The quick responses I've been receiving have done much to appease me, I assure you.

We can only hope that when we do make it home, it's when we left it so that we can go back to what we've been doing without missing a thing.

My understanding of the registry is that it's similar to the trace in underage wizards. With additional restrictions, it seems.
no subject
My every move being tracked doesn't sit right with me. It didn't as a child, but it does even less now.
People have been very kind in explaining at length the reasoning for it.
no subject
Did they explain to you the differences depending on your blood status?

Some equality.

It is rather confusing to me, though, that the Ministry is putting the Trace on all of the displaced regardless of blood status. Wouldn't that-- as someone [horrible woman] said before-- 'muddy the waters' for keeping track of the people this is apparently meant to protect?
[Not that she thinks any of this is about protection.]

Even purebloods can be dangerous, after all.
[ s a r c a s m ]

That's quite true.
Although I'll admit I'm surprised they only think the displaced purebloods are the ones that can be dangerous.
