Portraits don't quite do people justice, no matter how lifelike they become through magic. But they are fascinating to study, nonetheless.

An inquiry for those who use this form of communication: how many of you studied in Hogwarts? I would enjoy reading your experiences, should you wish to share them.

I did not study in Hogwarts. I studied in a school called Durmstrang. However, in this place I am an outlier - I am not originally from this part of the world, after all. Close, but not quite.

Is it only the experiences of Hogwarts students that you seek?

We all become outliers at one point in our lives.

I would like to know your experiences in your school, of course. Durmstrang is not a name known to me, but it pleases me that more establishments have been created to promote a safe learning environment for young individuals.

I do not mind it so much. I have often been, it does not bother me.

It is a school in the North; our subjects are as wide-spread as Hogwarts' are. Our castle is grand and quiet - we only light fires for purposes of magic but the school is kept warm through other methods. It was... I have few words to describe it. It was the first place that I felt as though I belonged somewhere.

I had not realized it was a problem until I was there.

You'll find most of us did graduate from Hogwarts, as Herr Grindelwald has indicated.
I graduated some years ago, from Slytherin House. And yourself?

I did not graduate from Hogwarts, but the school fascinates me regardless.

[ if he wanted to be less discreet, slytherin would use a different pen with a more obscure name attached to it (valour, something not many people would attach to his name). as it is, he will enjoy knowing how each indivdual will attempt to figure out how to best ask him his name. ]

Did you enjoy your time at your school and the house you were sorted into?

I enjoyed it well enough, and certainly found friends among my house that have lasted beyond my school days. In the end, school is just the backbone of education, is it not?
One stagnates if one does not continue education.

I studied at Hogwarts. I was also studying magical portraiture before I got pulled here.

It is a fascinating field of study. One could create a wonderful protrait, and give it life, yet it would never be a perfect replica.

Which house did you hail from, if I may ask?

It's really complex. You have to be good at art and also good at magic.

I was in Gryffindor.

I suppose the advantage of being unknown is that one can be audacious and loud when discussing opinions close to their heart.

Cross your heart, then: where do you stand on one of the most long-suffering debates in the history of Hogwarts?

I graduated from Hogwarts just this past year. I was a Slytherin. The years I spent there were enjoyable.

Congratulations, and now you are on your way to making an impact at the world at large.

[ cunning. resourcefulness. determination. one does not have to be all of these things, but it would certainly stroke slytherin's ego if all students sorted into his house have all of his best qualities. ]

As I understand, Slytherins are ambitious and goal-driven, and often quite successful when they put their mind to something.

I was a Slytherin. It was unheard of in my family.

That only means that you have more cunning and ambition than the rest of them, which is no terrible thing. [ And, that he is no muggle-born. The Sorting Hat should be the most aware of his opinions there. ] Do you believe you do?

I did love my classes, but my social experience would have been much improved were my house and family not so deeply associated with Dark magic and painfully archaic ways of thinking.

[Yeah he's read through other people's conversations and he has his suspicions as to who this is.
