things are getting hare(s)-y } anon as heck

What happened this morning was horrible. I hope that everyone recovers and that they're able to figure out exactly who is responsible for it.

[Not "who did it," necessarily. There's a reason for that.]

When I'm from, there's only a particular group of people that tend to know and have reason to use magic as horrid as that. I do hope the Ministry is making certain to focus their attentions on said particular people, no matter what their time status is.

[She doubts it.]

I would assume you're sending this out forward of reporting said particular people's names to one of the investigating aurors?

[ Most m.i.a.vi. messages are simply that, unsigned, but this one has an official-looking signature at the bottom, much like if it were an owl coming from the Ministry:

Elektra I. Burke
Senior Auror
Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Ministry of Magic ]

[ They do screen for evil when hiring at the Ministry.

Wait.

No. They don't actually screen for evil when hiring at the Ministry at all. ]

That's unfortunate. I suppose we shall have to rely upon investigation techniques, and you can continue to shout accusations into the ether.

If you were willing to send either a private, anonymous message to me or - if you think I'm potentially untrustworthy - to the office head Rabastan Lestrange, I'm certain we would at minimum check the alibis of any people you list.

[ She's going to need a drink when the Minister's at the top of the list. ]

We will certainly discuss the need you have brought to our attention internally and consider what measures might be appropriate to maintain the anonymity of those who desire it, and who also desire to aid the Department in any current and ongoing investigations.

[ The entire list, Elektra thinks as she looks at it, smacks of conspiracy theory. The Minister. Three Department Heads, the Head of the Auror Office, a Hogwarts Professor. Luckily, sighs can't be heard via m.i.a.v.i., not this sort at least. ]

The last is Theodore Nott, I expect. And the spelling on the senior Lestrange brother's name is Rodolphus rather than Rudolphus.

We do thank you for the information. Have you encountered any of these people in this time, or are your suspicions based on events from the future?

[ Ironically, the Minister would be the easiest to determine an alibi for, because the Minister - in a gesture of apparant good faith - has the Trace. Elektra isn't particularly sure she agrees with the Trace, not for anyone, but she can see the advantage now, at least.

Of course everyone else on the list is pureblood, like her. ]

Probably. Registration is a joint endeavor between MLE and MAC.

[ Meaning if it wasn't Bellatrix or Rodolphus who gave her the trace to begin with, it was just as likely to have been one of the aurors currently recovering from Fiendfyre. ]

I imagine Ms. Black, as head of the DMAC, would be interested in someone who claimed to have knowledge of suspects in what has been one of the largest magical catastrophes in several years. Containing that particularly charm was almost more than the four of us who were first to the scene could handle.

I understand that you have little trust that people here are different than they are in your time. I can't even blame you for that. I'd feel the same way, and we will investigate.
But please know if there is nothing to tie anyone on your list to this morning - that's as far as it can go.

Obviously.

( Nothing says being careful like a post to quite literally everyone. )

This is just subtle enough to be stirring the cauldron, so I cannot help but wonder what your motives are.

Have you considered that the Prophet may have better sources than you?

( It's a fair point.

... A point she is loathe to make, mostly because just last month, she's found herself featured on some gossip page or other over the sudden ending of her engagement. Repeatedly. The downside of buying yourself a decade of freedom from social obligations is that they crush in very hard ––

wait, where was she? Right. People died. )

[No time like the present to stir the pot, hm?]

Speculation without proof is, occasionally, a slippery slope you realize.
