Is there anything more comforting than spending a rainy afternoon sipping tea and reading a good book? I've discovered some fascinating novels. There aren't enough hours in the day to read as much as I'd like. I'm curious if anyone shares my problem. So many words to read, especially when you're making up for lost time.

It is a noble pursuit, is it not? Following the trail of knowledge. I find myself at a loss many occasions simply because I have not enough time to follow every academic pursuit that I wish.

Now, having lost decades, there is a lot of lost time to make up for, no? One almost needs a time-turner just to find enough time to read or experiment.

Even with a time-turner, you'd find yourself overwhelmed with the enormous variety of books available. I prefer to enjoy my journey. Adding hours to my day, while tempting, would only lead to more responsibilities.

You've lost decades? It's jarring, arriving so far into the future. Muggles have certainly changed. If I didn't know any better, I would believe they've all suddenly developed a talent for magic.

I have been told I am too voracious in my pursuit of knowledge and perhaps this is one of the largest signs of it. I would not mind more responsibilities if only I had more time to work. Unfortunately, time seems to have played a joke.

Eight of them, to be exact. The advances certainly are interesting, aren't they? I find myself impressed if I am honest. Still, many things I had hoped for are nowhere to be found. Disappointing.

There are people who would find it unthinkable to be impressed at the technology of muggles. Magic is timeless, but I am continually in awe of muggle creativity.

What were you hoping for? Personally, a pair of socks with a semi-permanent sticking charm so that they never lose their mate would be nice.

I am hard-pressed to admit it, but there is some merit.

It's the little things in life that make it worth living, Gellert. Surely you remember that.

[Albus isn't surprised that Gellert had been able to piece together Albus' identity. He is surprised to find him here, of all places. It's troubling.]

Improbable but not impossible. You never seemed bothered by improbabilities before.

I cannot content myself with the little things that have no hold or effect on me, Albus. None of them register. Surely you remember that.

Perhaps in the past I was more open to entertaining thoughts that could never be. I've grown a bit older since then. I'm not arrogant enough to claim I've grown wiser, just... older.

I remember. How can I forget? I'm reminded every day of your ability to disregard everything but your grand ambition.

I hadn't had a chance to read for fun until recently. First there was school, and all the reading I did was for studying. Then I was... traveling, for a year. And I didn't have the time to sit and read. I didn't know how much I'd missed it until just this past year or so.

Discovering books is like finding new friends. Or old friends.

I did some travelling myself in my youth. Which country did you find most enchanting?

Oh, no.
I stayed in the UK, actually. Just traveled around a lot within Britain.

There are many fascinating sites within our own country. But something tells me that your travels were not taken for pleasure.

I've had those sort of travels, as well.

The Life of Nicholas Flamel is rather interesting, although, he does prattle on a bit much. I'm not certain which edition is currently available.

Ah, Quidditch! A fine sport that I've little knack for, I'm afraid. Brilliant to watch. I know that the larger Quidditch clubs are far more popular with the youth, but my favorite matches are those held at Hogwarts.

They were always pretty good. We're nothing compared to the Cup, though.

No, the Quidditch Cup is a sight to behold. I've only had the pleasure to attend the Cup once in my life. I believe the Chudley Cannons were triumphant that day. I was... thirteen at the time.

The last time they won was 1892.

That's right. It was a good event, anyway. My best mate Elphias and I were decked out in Orange for weeks after.

Blimey, I wasn't even born then. What year is it for you?

It's 1980, from what the Daily Prophet suggests, however, the last year I recall is 1920. Of course, we wizards do keep long lives so I suppose there is a real chance that my current self is still around. I should be, oh, 99 currently.

Now that is an image I will have difficulty erasing from my mind. Would Merlin's undergarments sag? I can say it has never occurred to me. Did he even wear undergarments?

No. That is one line of thought I won't follow. Like the man himself, it shall remain a mystery.

You sound like one of my former students. I suppose all the displaced are in the same boat, as it were. This isn't where we belong. How we arrived here is a mystery that, unlike Merlin's undergarments, I do intend to solve.

These quills are quite interesting, although I doubt it will ever take the place of a well thought out letter delivered by owl. But, what do I know? We wizards seem to cling to the old ways. Have you been to muggle London? The leaps and bounds of muggle ingenuity borders on magic.

I must admit I have a fondness for the underdogs. The Cannons do make a good show of it, even if they've never been back to the World Cup.

May I ask what year you attended Hogwarts? I should hope that my Transfiguration class was enjoyable and informative.
